For each activity being undertaken in an Extreme fire danger rating (including at a Scouts Victoria campsite)
- the Leader in Charge (or delegate for large events) has two-way communication with all participants at all times
- the activity is no further than 30 minutes from a safe location - this could either be away from the area or an appropriate shelter-in-place scenario. If the time to get to a safe location is longer, this needs to be considered in evacuation triggers
- weather and fire conditions are continuously monitored - the most effective way to monitor fire conditions is using the Vic Emergency app and placing a watch point at the activity location. Ensure that the range of the watch point includes the evacuation route to a point of safety. It’s not just the location of the activity the may be affected by bushfire, it’s also the route from the activity back home or to a safe point.
- the program is adapted to suit the conditions - determine if there is anything about the program that is inappropriate for the conditions, such as anything that could trigger a fire or that hamper your ability to evacuate in a timely manner
- an evacuation and/or shelter-in-place plan is in place and considers travel through bushfire risk areas
- sufficient transport is available to relocate or evacuate the area if required
- trigger points are established that consider the above points to ensure that a cancellation or evacuation is called with sufficient time
